Would Prime Larry beat Prime Ali, Foreman and Frazier?

Larry Homes (69-6, 44 KOs) was a World Heavyweight title holder from 1978 to 1985. He beat Ken Norton (40-4) for the WBC belt and made 16 defenses, best wins were over Mike Weaver, Earnie Shavers, Trevor Berbick, Tex Cobb and Gerry Cooney. He then vacated the belt and won the newly formed IBF belt by beating Bonecrusher Smith (14-1). The WBC weren't happy with Larry defending against a 10-0 Marvis Frazier. He made two defences, of the IBF, David Bey (14-0) & Carl Williams (16-0) and then lost two points decisions to Michael Spinks (2nd one controversial). He came back and challenged Mike Tyson but was battered in four rounds. He came back again and took Evander Holyfield and Oliver McCall the distance in World title fights.

Other names on his record are the the completely shot Muhammad Ali, inexperienced Tim Witherspoon (15-0) and a close decision win over Ray Mercer. Some people thought Witherspoon and Carl Williams deserved the verdict. His jab is legendary and he is known for his recuperative powers, having been heavily dropped by Renaldo Snipes and Earnie Shavers but getting back up to win.

During Holmes long reign as WBC champion, he never had a unification fight against any of the WBA champions - people like John Tate, Greg Page, Michael Dokes, Gerrie Coetzee. Pinklon Thomas, Tony Tubbs and James Tillis also missing from the record. Foreman, Frazier and Ali fought everyone on offer.

Would Larry have beaten the likes of Ali, Foreman and Frazier?

--- Always fond of a Bashing Tubby Lar piñata party, so let's just say NO, he coul never beat them nor Norton either when they ere in prime form since he was the same age as George.

:mlol: I agree...it's amazing how much hype he gets these days. The guy would have NEVER reigned so long if it was the 70's. The 80's heavyweights...a very mixed bag of underachievers who were never in shape like Page and Tubbs, talented guys that never stayed on the right track too long like Witherspoon and Thomas and just decent but not spectacular fighters like Snipes and Bonecrusher Smith. Oh and Larry never fought Coetzee, Tubbs or Thomas. Coetzee was also talented but his hand injuries ruined his career, of course.

--- Errrr, how about Tubby Lar who was still skinny then the same age as George was busy getting KOed by Bobick in the Olympic trials.

The year before Joe has whooped Ali in their super fight and and the next year george KOed joe for his title and then norton, and then norton broke Ali's jaw and so on and so forth. By the time poor Lar entered the rankings, Ali, Joe, and George had retired for 3 vacancies and norton near retirement...
