Classic boxer vs fighter bout. Depends which Lady Lara turns up too. I'm leaning towards Hurd and my US pals are split just about 50:50 over it so looking forward to it.

Re: Lara vs Hurd this Saturday - Who wins?

Very good matchup. Hurd will be the first fighter in a long time who will force Lara to engage more.

Most of it comes down to if Hurd is able to pin lara down on the ropes or the corner and break him down. Im not sure if Lara is an aging fighter already, but he hasnt

shown big stamina issue yet.

Lara showed gread footwork against Canelo, but the fight is a little bit misleading, because Canelo doesnt really know how to fight on the frontfoot, close the distance fast and cut off the ring.

He was just winging big left hooks to the body and hoped it would slow down Lara later.

The fight against Angulo was a long time ago and Lara certainly improved since then, but Angulo was able to pin Lara down on the ropes and Laras first instinct was to cover up and allow Angulo

to touch him up. If he does that against Hurd, who is much bigger and more physical and has more fluid combinations, it wont go well for Lara.

Lara on the other hand has great counterpunching skills and a lethal left straight. Hurd is very open when he closes the distance. So another question is if Hurd can take Laras punches and if Lara throws more

than just single shots and moves out of range. Dont see him stopping Hurd with single shots.

Re: Lara vs Hurd this Saturday - Who wins?

--- If you go back to review Canelo/Lady Lara, Canelo cut him off all night.

What he didn't do was attack, but rather tryin to force a counterpunch. Net result was 2 natural counter punchers negating each other, a boring prediction many forecast in advance.

Re: Lara vs Hurd this Saturday - Who wins?

Hurd does have quite a reach advantage, and pretty fast hands to go with it.

I still think Lara is too slick, Hurd will have a very hard time landing flush, but Lara's going to have to fight a perfect fight.

Same, i think Lara will make him miss at will. Hopefully he counters him. Still have that Hurd performance against Trout in my mind. He won, but got smacked around way too much for my liking.

Re: Lara vs Hurd this Saturday - Who wins?

I like Hurd a LOT, but I think Lara is too fast & slick for him. Exactly the wrong opponent, stylistically.

I expect a boring, wide decision win for the Cuban.

- But I'm rooting for Hurd.

Same with me. I want Hurd to win, but I expect Lara to be too slick and quick. But mostly 50-50 fight. Quality of Lara's recent opposition can't be compared to Hurd.

Re: Lara vs Hurd this Saturday - Who wins?

--- I've made it a point to avoid Lady Lara's borefests and never seen Hurd fight. Picked Hurd in my predictor because of his size and presumed strength.

Lady Lara will make it negative to the cards, and eventually the suits will figure the guy is bad for boxing and pull the plug.

Re: Lara vs Hurd this Saturday - Who wins?

I think Hurd can win, if he applies enough pressure and is accurate enough. He beat down Trout, another slick fighter, even tho in the beginning he was getting frustrated by him. Lara is better than Trout but has never fought someone that is so tall AND hits as hard. It can go either way...

Re: Lara vs Hurd this Saturday - Who wins?

i scored the fight a draw with the knock down in rd 12, really close fight imo, both boxers off their heads thinking they won easy

Had Hurd winning without the knockdown. Lara was real uncomfortable all night. Still close but only one winner - Jarrett Hurd. Probably the first time we can say he got beat. Was no draw, mate.

Re: Lara vs Hurd this Saturday - Who wins?

Fight-score users, as a collective (Of not very many) had it very close with Hurd just edging it so the knockdown seems pretty crucial.

Yeah, I'm sure almost everyone saw it the same way.

Lara really impressed me, something I never expected. I guess he figured, with Hurd's reach, he was actually better off on the inside.

Fun fight to watch.

Sounds like a good one for the fight-score users to give us some score and data analysis if it might be a close fight! ;-)

Sign up and score the fights here: Fights List // Fight Score

--- While I have yet to see this fight, I find it interesting that everyone says it was a close fight regardless of the winner, and your scores reflect this sentiment.

since one of my swipes at current scoring is the emphasis on scoring a winner for every rd when every other pro sport of substance acknowledge "even" periods of play. Consolidating to average the scores would appear to do that bolstered by averaging each fighter score for each rd. the net outcome of your scoring coincides with the result perfectly.

Happenstance? Or the beginnings of the right formula to improve current scoring methodology using the current system? Time will tell.

Whilst the number of scorecards are low the accuracy is there. Could falter when there are more numbers, and maybe nuisance scorecards created. Time will tell.
