Vitali Klitschko wants to fight Anthony Joshua and succeed where brother Wladimir failed: 'I'd knock him out!'

Vitali Klitschko hopes to one day avenge his brother Wladimir's defeat by Anthony Joshua, claiming even at 46 he could knock Britain's unified heavyweight world champion out.

Joshua climbed off the canvas to stop Klitschko in the 11th round of their April Wembley blockbuster to send the 41-year-old into retirement.

Vitali worked his brother's corner that night and advised him against pushing for a knockout after he had floored Joshua in round six.

Obviously this will never happen, and if it did Vitali is too old, and too long out of the ring. Having said that, I do think a prime Vitali would have beaten Joshua.

Josh would do to Klitschko, what Klitschko did to Briggs.. and Briggs would be there front row shouting let's go champ. Mind you he's probably doing that in his living room right now so that's not really very meaningful to this. That fight was one of the ones I bring up when people ask about fights that went on cringingly long. Horrible beating. Worse than Lacey?

Think he's just trying to get back into the media again. He knows very well he's not going to come out of retirement to fight AJ! As he hasn't been active in so many years it might be less of a challenge than Wlad st this point

He didn’t say he wanted to fight Joshua, he said he’d like to avenge his brothers loss but because of his job it can’t happen

Come on Dave!! Don't let facts get in the way of a tabloid headline!

I never thought Vitali was that great in the first place - Wlad had the greater talent. Vitali might have survived against Joshua if he made it to the ring, but he was too injury prone even in his prime, and his knockout record was declining by the time he retired.

That may well be true, but in Vitali's case, it would be a major issue vs Joshua - Vitali was never as varied or as mobile as Wlad, relying on a strong jab softening guys up for the KO. That's not likely to be enough to keep a Joshua at bay.

He said what he wanted to do but also made the excuse of why he is too busy. The old man would get absolutely destroyed.

When Foreman came back and faced Moorer, was he given any chance or was it as ridiculous as this fight seems?

Quite a bit different as Foreman had 29 warm-up fights before facing Moorer. Vitali hasn't fought for 5 years. Not really the same is it, Gav?

I wasn't suggesting the situation was the same, merely enquiring regarding another ancient ex-champ vs a young contender. Don't suppose Vitali would just go straight in though - they'd find some guys to lay down for him.

EDIT: Boxrec also lists Foreman as having 15 months between Morrison and Moorer - how long does it take for rust to set in, especially after the age of 40? Are you worse with each passing month or does it level off after a certain point? I've never thought about it before.

Foreman had 29 warm up fights before he faced Michael Moore?! He must have fought a few tomato cans to get that many in!
