Middleweight champion Michael Bisping thinks that Conor McGregor may be in trouble against Floyd Mayweather Jr. In this video he says Conor may get injured because he believes boxers pack more of a punch at the end of the day. Check it out.

Michael Bisping "Boxers hit ALOT harder then MMA fighters. Floyd could seriously hurt Conor"

Re: Who hits harder Boxing or MMA?

It would be great if there is a scientific study which looks at the boxing vs mma in a lot of detail, say technique, delivery, aerodynamics of the flight of the punch. I know there was a show a while back which compared weapons both current and historical but not sure if they did one with boxing vs mma.

Boxers train everyday throwing punches. MMA fighters punch as part of there training and use their strength in holds. Both MMA fighters and boxers both do weight training.

I'd guess both hit around the same but timing, accuracy, footwork and experience in the Mayweather-McGregor fight will all Mayweather to make light work of McGregor.

There have been several serious studies, looking at the energy transfer (several parameters) of all strikes from all combat sports.

Of all the arm-thrown strikes, the Boxing overhand right wins hands-down. There is no argument to be made otherwise.

This is because of 2 main factors:

1: when thrown properly, the opposite hand is is pulled backwards sharply, adding speed and helping to align the arm properly with the body & legs.

2: The overall kinetic chain (which provides support for the punch, all the way to the ground) is most efficient with this punch.

Re: Who hits harder Boxing or MMA?

Would have assumed the "superman" punch would have the most force behind it, and in boxing it's a foolish punch, in MMA it can be set up by foot feints.

However boxers are BY FAR the cleaner punchers, which will make a world of difference

What is a "superman" punch?

--- espn utube breakdown that I cant copy on iPhone.

Basically, boxers in huge gloves slowing down speed results in -2% force per sq inch compared to smaller, lighter UFC gloves, so Conor handicapped in punching power but bolstered his chin by the lesser incoming. 'Tis what it is. A 500 lb gorilla vs a 500 lb lion has more relevancy than this match for the worlds soft lads.
