As per usual we the fans get fed lies, sold out in 90 seconds? More like sent to ticket touts who sell a lot higher than face value.

If they were really sold out why can we still get tickets on the below links?

Sport Event Tickets in Event Genre:Sporting Events, Month:April, Venue City/ Town:London | eBay

Anthony Joshua vs Charles Martin The O2 arena London Tickets | Sat 09 Apr 2016 - viagogo

I find it terrible that once again the true boxing fans will get ripped off and struggle to get the x-amount tickets set aside for fans, while other sports fans (band wagon jumpers and glory hunters) may have snapped up the tickets on the telephones/internet.

It's a perfect marketing scheme. Resellers buy loads of tickets, and the official ticket sellers say they're sold out. With the news of the tickets being sold out, people who want to see the match happily pay double the price to the resellers.

Looks like the the independent have picked up on this

The original prices of the tickets were justified due to the calibre of the event as they started off at £40 ranging to £300.

Via Go Go and Stub Hub have now cashed in on the spectacular event with Stub Hub claiming they have a whopping 1,347 tickets available ranging from £144 to £3,500 on floor side.

I would love to have gone to this event, but not in London buying from a tout.

I went to New York to see Holyfield V Lewis, and within seconds of arriving outside the venue, guys were trying to scam us. They tried to give us tickets to an ice hockey match.

Also befriended Alex Garcia, and we were hanging out together. Only when I got home did I find out, he was a convicted murderer!

Dear Independent,

This is not riding on the wave of the football issue - not everything in the sporting world revolvews around football. I have been making the same complaints for years - they did the same thing with the Hatton-Mayweather fight, the same thing happens with every major music gig, mosty major sporting events etc.

Where this case stands out is, as with snooker, which is owned and governed by Barry Hearn/Matchroom, the people in charge of staging the event are working hand in glove with the touting websites, granting them a legitimacy they don't deserve and encouraging extortion of fans torn between missing the event and paying 10 times the face value of the ticket.

For the snooker, tickets to all the major events this year went on sale at the same time - the final day of last year's world championship. This led to bedlam at the venue, which had to contend with people arriving to watch the final, people collecting tickets for the final and people queueing to buy tickets for next year's tournament. All this while trying to service its usual customers who wanted tickets for the theatre.

Tickets were snapped up of course, and immediately appeared on ebay, gumtree, viagogo and Stubhub for vastly inflated prices - tickets for a session of Ronnie O'Sullivan's second-round match were on sale at £250(face value £20) before he had even arrived at the venue to begin his first-round match. They were still on sale when the session started, meaning the tout never got a sale and fans were kept out of the arena to watch the empty seats on TV.

What was it you said to me Gav? Article padding they do the same with Twitter quotes which are small.

Clicked on the writers name seems shes more of a football writer and padded the article with a recent football event.

Let's say resellers bought most f the tickets.

The tickets are still sold, aren't they? It's a bit devious of a statement, but the market predicts a sellout, so resellers quickly purchased all the seats in the house.

Yes, it is in line with the law and with the fundamentals of capitalism, but one would think the organizers would not want their ticket sales to make it harder for the fans to actually afford the event. With concerts they sometimes set aside a certain amount of tickets that are available for resellers to purchase, or release tickets in intervals. But it's a free market.

If the resellers are selling them, essentially, straight from the promoter (as is speculated) then they've not sold out. For me a "sell out" indicates "tickets no longer available", not "tickets available through our sponsor at a ridiculous mark up". The fact the resellers "purchased" several thousand tickets in 90 seconds adds weight to the speculation that they weren't every truly available to be bought. Be interesting to see how many fans, if they had the capital, could have snapped up all the tickets within 90 seconds...

I doubt the resellers could buy tickets within 90 seconds as there is a limit on how many you can buy over the phone/internet at one time surely?

Wouldn't surprise me if they had a deal with promoters before hand, we will sell at x4, x5 face value and cut you an extra 20% on top of the ticket price.

Re: Martin vs Joshua tickets gone in 90 seconds or have they?

It's definitely unfair to the fans that want to go to the match. This happens all the time at events. People scoop up tons of tickets to a popular show, and sell them for 2x on Craigs List. But in this case, it's done by corporations, and it's not fair.

Re: Martin vs Joshua tickets gone in 90 seconds or have they?

This is just the way it is now; the promoters don't give a fuck who is creaming off the top as long as they get their pound of flesh. Unfortunately the rise in PPV events over the past few years has added considerably to the promotion of such events that make the tickets like gold dust, we will probably find out that there will be massive numbers of non-boxing fans watching this!

Not so sure about that, companies like that usually employ loads of people to buy the maximum amount of allowed tickets each. But a shady deal between money makers wouldn't surprise any of us either.

Speculative or not, if they haven't made a shady deal with promoters/organizers, they could hardly return hundreds of tickets because they couldn't shake down enough fans, right?

Depends what the terms of sale are - a lot of places will accept returns but charge a fee, some will refuse altogether. If they don't sell any, that would teach them a lesson, but that's hardly likely, and their margins are such that they'd probably only need to sell a third of their supply to break even.

Ah, I see. Yeah, it's clearly profitable, hiking prices according to demand.
