well the fight is just over a month away so thought i'd get a poll up for some debate, opinions and discussion on the fight

My pick is Juanma by KO or TKO

Marquez is obviously the more experienced of the 2 and the threat is always there with the power he has and Juanma's vulnerability, but i think Juanma will show his youth and talent and stop Marquez in the later rounds

thoughts?

also have a look at my preview of the fight if you get chance

cheers guys

the smart choice is lopez, hes got all the advantages... size, youth, and power (though marquez was a big puncher at bantamweight, we don't know if he has carried it).

but i will be rooting for marquez, i hope he can pull out the victory. he has the skills and the heart plus there are a few questions about juanma's chin.

so ill vote marquez by a real knock out

Exactly my thoughts, juanma obviously the favourite but I'll be cheering on marquez

For me Marquez is a great fighter, a champion, but at this point in his career, after many hard battles, I believe that against the young and the powerful Lopez Mexican fighter has very little chance of finishing the match standing. I say Lopez winner by Ko within the first five round.

There's no denying Lopez skill and power. But it's hard to shake the memory of him being dropped by an inferior fighter in Concepcion and barely hanging on against the very limited, crude Mtagwa. Fighters who are no where near the level of Marquez. Lopez went for the early stoppage against both. And i think that will play right into Marquez's hands.

to be fair on Juanma though i think he was weight drained when he fought Mtagwa and could no longer make the weight comfortably anymore

the Concepcion KD isn't enough evidence on his chin yet for me as it was only a flash knockdown and could have been as much down to his balance as it could his chin

this fight will really test him though and be the proof we need on his chin

I think that in a war, Marquez is more durable.

I'm not convinced that Lopez can outgun him, even with youth and size on his side.

Marquez has the slight edge in power and a gulf in experience, and they both count for a lot.

I think Lopez has the ability to outbox him though.

If he comes in with a proper gameplan and uses speed and movement, then I think he boxes his way to a reasonably easy UD.

If it comes down to a punch-out, then I think Lopez' chin is too questionable to go the distance against a top fighter like Marquez.

I think Lopez has gained enough experience now to box an intelligent fight and take the decision, but I think the fight will have it's moments for both guys.

interesting points you make mate

the majority believe this will end in a stoppage either way so it's interesting to hear that you reckon it'll be a points win

I don't see any real speed advantage on Lopez's part;Marquez has always had good hand speed. What you have is two boxer-punchers,who throw textbook combinations, who both have a flawed defense, and both of whom have shown themselves to be vulnerable in the past.

That said,in addition to being the younger, stronger and the fresher of the two,Lopez carries no ring rust going into this fight.Marquez is clearly in the twilight of his career, has just fought six rounds in two and a half years - pretty much Top Rank cherry picking a "name" for Lopez's resume.

I see the first couple of rounds being fairly competitive and then Lopez breaking him down by the middle rounds and then stopping him around the 7th or 8th round.

Lopez looked great at the start of the Mtagwa. Thing is he couldn't put him away and started getting frustrated. The same happened in the Lontchi and Penalosa fights. Lopez seems to lose his composure when things are not going the way he planned. He starts loading up on his punches and looks to end everything with one punch. Fortunately for Lopez, Lontchi didn't have the power to hurt him. Penalosa was to small and old. And Mtagwa by all means is nothing more than a journeyman. Neither fighter was capable of taking advantage of the situation. Marquez is. And will.
