RAZZ-MCFC
Smokin' Joe is getting an award from his home state of South Carolina. Boxing champion Joe Frazier is scheduled to receive the Order of the Palmetto near where he grew up in Beaufort's Waterfront Park from Gov. Mark Sanford. The award is the state's highest civilian honor. Frazier grew up in Laurel Bay in Beaufort County. He eventually left as a teenager and moved to Philadelphia where he became a championship prize fighter. Frazier won a gold medal at the 1964 Olympic Games and eventually held the undisputed heavyweight championship. He's perhaps best know for his three fights with Muhammed Ali, the first in 1971 dubbed "The Fight of the Century" and won by Frazier. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/boxing/2010-09-27-2948316203_x.htm
