Wheelchair
Former heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (27-1-1, 17 KOs) took a harder than expected eight round unanimous decision over Travis Walker (34-6-1, 28 KOs) in a good action fight on Friday night at the Universum Gym in Hamburg, Germany. The fighters often traded big bombs, but Chagaev did a little more to win by scores of 77-75, 78-75, 77-76. Chagaev is the mandatory challenger for WBA heavyweight champion David Haye. Top 5 heavyweight contender Denis Boytsov (28-0, 23 KOs) showed no ill effects from hand surgery, dropping Mike Sheppard (15-12-1, 8 KOs) twice in round one and twice in round two before the bout was waved off. Time as 1:18. Boytsov is rated WBC#3/WBA #3/IBF #11/WBO #4. After the bout Boytsov said his right hand was fine and he’s ready for Klitschko. Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Manuel Charr (15-0, 8 KOs) won by TKO when Robert Hawkins (23-16, 7 KOs) couldn’t come out for round six. It was rough and sometimes dirty fight with bigger, stronger Charr having the advantage. 2008 Olympic heavyweight gold medalist Rachim Tschachkijew (7-0, 6 KOs) destroyed Chris “Cold Steel” Thomas (17-15-2, 14 KOs) in the first round. A body shot to the breadbasket put Thomas down for the count. Time was 2:59. Former WBO super middleweight world champion Karoly Balzsay (23-2, 16 KOs) knocked out Misa Nikolic (6-9, 3 KOs) in round four. Time 2:10. Classy unbeaten Universum super featherweight Marcel Meyerdiercks (18-0, 5 KOs) outpointed Philippe Frenois (12-2-1, 0 KOs) over ten rounds in a bout that figured to go the distance. Scores were 98-92, 97-95, 96-94. http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/early-results-from-germany-25-67409#more-67409
Wheelchair
From the scores it sounds a close fight, could Chagaev be slipping a bit?
iamasadlittleboy
Chagaevs been slipping for a while Good to see Tschachkijew win again, this guy is something special I'm tell ya.
gavpowell
Chagaev was pretty ropey - bit flabby, timing was way off, lunging quite a lot, not as busily aggressive as he should be. But then he's never been the same since he came back from illness.

brooklynbrawler
This leads me into thinking Haye will definitely go with him next, and dodge the unification bout with one of the Klitschko's yet again. He's been on the slide for a couple of years now, but still has a reasonable reputation.

Klitschko's want Sauerland out of the picture and Haye needs one more fight for that to happen. Chagaev has been useless since and including the Drummond fight - nice easy win for Haye. The American fans seem to hold him in high regard, so Haye gains by destroying him.
Johnny Walker
What is with these eight round distances for Chagaev?
WelshDevilRob
8 rounds seems abit odd. Think it was just a keep busy fight against the divisions 'Gatekeeper'. If Ruslan was looking to shake off ring rust then a 10 rounder would have served him better especially as his next fight is likely to be a title shot against Haye. Mooreman
Chagaev has suffered serious motivational problems in my opinion, he's been dealt blow after blow and is just in it for the money. Maybe the Haye fight will get him going again. He might fancy being in against a smaller , untested Heavyweight that has shown lack of heart previously :)
