While Tomasz Adamek is focused on facing Vinny Maddalone on December 9, things are moving forward on a possible clash between Adamek and ring legend Roy Jones Jr. in early 2011 if no fight with the Klitschkos materializes.

“We presented Ziggy Rozalski a simple, straightforward contract and as far as I know, it is acceptable to both Ziggy and Adamek. From our perspective, we are very interested in a fight between Tomasz and Roy for early next year,” said John Wirt, CEO of Square Ring Promotions who represents the former world champion in four different weight classes.

Jones Jr. spoke to Fightnews.com:

Roy, are you aware that you are a part of the Polish national debate?

Did I do something? What happened?

You are one of the most revered and popular fighters in Poland and now you want to fight Tomasz Adamek. Your fans are asking themselves if Adamek should fight a legend that has his best years behind him. Why should Adamek fight you?

There are many reasons. What about fighting somebody who actually did what Adamek wants to accomplish – become light heavyweight and heavyweight champion of the world? If I were him, I would like to fight somebody like that. To find out what he did to get the heavyweight title in the ring, not by watching tapes. He probably saw me fighting John Ruiz many times but real life it’s a different thing.

What about this “best years behind him” – do you agree?

People are saying this but ask, for example, Jeff Lacy if this is the truth. He is not saying this anymore, is he? I need special motivation, it inspires me when people are telling me that it’s over and it gives me special motivation – this is why Adamek is a challenge I like.

Lacy and Adamek, we are talking different weight classes. 50 pounds different.

So what? Adamek has very quick hands for a heavyweight and I have quick hands. He can punch and I can punch. Don’t you want to see who is better? I know his career; we would have probably already fought if he would have stayed in light heavyweight division. He’s is a brave guy, does what he wants, looks for challenges, just like me.

In 2003, when you fought John Ruiz for WBC title, you weighed only 193 pounds…

The cruiserweight division limit was 190 lbs. back then, so I had to be over the limit to fight at heavyweight. Now it’s 200, but my weight will not be a problem. People who are saying that I’m not hitting as hard as before should ask that to Adamek after the fight. I have no problem with fighting Adamek. I understand that for him I may be a stepping stone, easy fight before the Klitschkos or Haye. It’s OK, I have no problem with that, but he will see that I’m still a teacher and in comparison to what I did in the ring, he is still a pupil.
