telboy66
The SUN's Colin Hart has said that he will not be voting for Mike Tyson's entry into The World Boxing Hall Of Fame based one can only think on his activities outside the ring. Shameful thou they are Mike would not be the first ex con to be inducted, OK he was convicted of rape but one of the biggest promoters of the day kicked a man to death & yet he will go straight in if not already in. The HOF is littered with Bank robbers Wife beaters & even murderers. based purely on his boxing record mike is a shoe in.I wonder how many other ex con,s Mr Hart has voted in ? Brick Top
Agreed, for me the HOF should be based purely on achievements in the ring, if you start basing it on moral grounds where does it stop?
Wheelchair
The hall of fame is a load of turd// anyway, but it should only be concerned with achievements inside the ring.
davemurphy
If you set that standard now, do you go back and take a Carlos Monzon OUT for killing his Girlfriend? I think we all agree that if you start down that road now, then your on pretty shakey ground.
WelshDevilRob
I was never a fan of Colin Hart and this doesn't help his case. Mike Tyson, youngest ever Heavyweight Champion. Made a fair few title defences and also regained titles. He easily would get my vote, if I was lucky enough to be able to vote.

I suppose Colin Hart votes based only on behavior. I am fortunately not nearly as inhibited....and can see past that crock. Tyson is to me an "easy" induction. If you wanna get all high and mighty on induction, lets look at tossing a few out. Shall we ask Mr. Hart about what we should do with Carlos Monzon, for starters? WelshDevilRob
Hart was done in the 80's. He was an analyst on the Lewis vs Biggs fight and came across as argumentative and incorrect then. Ian Darke was the main commentator. I partly got into boxing cos both my Grandfathers loved the sport. Their hates were Hart and Carpenter. (I liked Harry) Hart should have been retired along time ago. I remember he backed Bruno to beat Lennox - enuff said.:)
donlevy
Colin Hart never seemed to rate Lewis very highly while he was still active.
hhascup
I have voting rights for both the Modern and Old-Timer Divisions. They have 45 boxers listed for the Modern Division and 50 for the Old-Timers. We are asked to pick up to 10 names in both Divisions, But only the top 3 will get in for the Modern and the top 2 for the Old-Timers. Oh yea, I did vote for Tyson! Henry- They need to clear out some of the dead wood on the modern ballot. So many of those guys are simply NEVER going to get voted in and they're taking up spots year after year. Al Hostak is one that comes to mind without looking back at the ballot, but there are several others. Also, why is the International Boxing Hall of Fame the only group that still considers anything from 1943 "Modern"? grin// After 20 years, might want to think about another category. I could not agree more But I don't have much to say about it. They have a boxer on the modern list who's highest rating was #9 in the World. One of my best friends is on the ballot, in fact when he died, I gave the eulogy, and I haven't voted for him yet, and I don't think he will ever get in the Hall of Fame. Right now they have 45 names for the modern class, and we have top pick as many as 10, but only the top 3 vote getters will be inducted. Every year they add another 3 so it stays at 45. The Old-Timers division, they have 50 names and we pick 10, but only 2 get in the Hall. Last year it was 3. I think they should do it like the Baseball Hall of Fame does it. If you don't get a percentage of the votes, you should be taken off. Also, I think they should change the year (1943) once in a while. Some of these guys could be put in the Old-Timers category class.

I know some years they have half a dozen hit 75% and some years they actually had NO inductees( which is fine with me to maintain quality, but I seriously doubt that would be feasible for the IBHOF given that so much centers on the Induction Weekend as far as keeping the place running financially). Baseball's 5% rule that removes someone from the ballot, performs the unplesant taks that apparently nobody with the IBHOF Ballot Process wants to do. I feel bad for someone like Orel Herschiser, a fine Pitcher who met that fate, but how fair is it to keep some on there that have no reasonable chance to EVER make it in. If it's really a tragedy then Baseball has a Veterans Committee that has the opportunity to right that wrong once the player hits 20 years retirement (15 years of acutally being elgible). Instead of the IBHOF worrying about hurting the feelings of those who've had their Induction pitch to swing at and failed many times, some of whom aren't even with us anymore, how about worrying about those that can't even get a pitch to swing at? (okay, I'll get off the baseball kick now grin//). I don't know if guys like Lupe Pintor, Julian Jackson, and a few others should be in, but at LEAST given them their opportunity to face the voters.
