Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach has hinted that the Filipino welterweight champion may retire after he faces Joshua Clottey on March 13 in Dallas.

Pacquiao, a seven-weight world champion, was originally scheduled to face Floyd Mayweather Jr, but negotiations broke down following Pretty Boy’s demands for Olympic style blood tests, which many feel was his own way of getting out a fight he didn’t want.

Mayweather will now face Sugar Shane Mosley on May 1 in Las Vegas. The logical outcome would be a fight between the winners of each contest and fans may finally get to see PacMan step into the ring with Money Mayweather.

However, if negotiations can’t secure a Mayweather v Pacquiao superfight, Roach revealed the Clottey fight may be the last for the boxing superstar.

“If Mayweather doesn't come around after this fight and sign to fight us, this could be our last one," Roach told East Side Boxing's On The Ropes.

Pacquiao is currently regarded as the pound-for-pound greatest active boxer and one of the sport’s all-time greats.

The 31-year-old faces a tough test against Ghanaian Clottey, who despite losing to Cotto in his last fight back in June, has never been knocked out in his three defeats from 39 fights.

Both Pacquiao and Roach are expecting a long night, but are confident of victory with Roach predicting a late knockout.

A ploy to make a PBF fight all the more appealing and boost the cheque methinks.

Think you've hit the nail on the head there, Battling. Smoke screen to get a Floyd fight on.

There are other fights out there for Manny though maybe his political ambitions will get in the way of fighting on.

What other fights rob?

For Manny from a personal perspective I'd like to see him against Timothy Bradley and Andre Berto. I'm sure the money that hes getting for Clottey will also be there for those fights.

Manny vs Paul Williams? I know it would never happen as the size is too much.

Fair comment mate but when your going down as the best of the last 10 (at least) years those boys just dont add up bar Williams which would never happen..

PBF or nothing for me mate

Very true.

I was surprised why he took Clottey a man already beaten by Cotto and Margarito. Its a pretty random kind of fight to take. Bradley and Berto for me offer more.

-------It's a quick make do fight to patch up a hole in Manny's tight schedule.

Take a look at Ring rankings. Other than Clottey who's easy to sign, the other top welts are Goldenboy/Hayman promoted/managed. Those fights are off until the lawsuit gets settled.

Arum wanted Foreman, but Roach queered that bout, so Arum offered it to Cotto.

As far as Manny retiring, well, not breaking news since he talked about it last year. Much depends on the elections and whether he can live without the tens of million dollar purses rolling in.

He also seems to be on a training ascendency, wanting the high from being in top shape. That's a lot to pass up.
